The White House has announced that Karine Jean-Pierre will serve as the new press secretary, making her the first Black LGBTQ person to hold the position. Jean-Pierre is a seasoned communications professional with decades of experience in politics and journalism.
Jean-Pierre's appointment is a significant milestone in the Biden administration's commitment to diversity and inclusion. She has previously worked as the principal deputy press secretary and deputy assistant to the President, and was the senior adviser for President Biden's 2020 campaign.
Prior to her White House service, Jean-Pierre was a political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, and worked at MoveOn.org, a progressive advocacy organization. She also served as the press secretary for Vice President Kamala Harris during her Senate campaign.
Jean-Pierre's partner, Suzanne Malveaux, is a CNN correspondent. The couple has a daughter together.
