David Texeira's late strike sends Go Ahead Eagles into the Dutch Cup final
Go Ahead Eagles will face Ajax in the Dutch Cup final after beating PSV Eindhoven 2-1 in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
David Texeira scored the winning goal in the 89th minute, after PSV had equalised through Cody Gakpo in the 74th minute. Go Ahead Eagles had taken the lead through Oliver Edvardsen in the 27th minute.
The match was played in front of a sold-out crowd at the Adelaarshorst in Deventer. Go Ahead Eagles, who are currently 10th in the Eredivisie, will now face Ajax in the final on May 18.
PSV, who are the defending champions, will be disappointed to have been knocked out of the cup. However, they can still win the Eredivisie title, as they are currently top of the table with four games remaining.
Go Ahead Eagles' victory is a major upset, as they are not one of the traditional powerhouses of Dutch football. However, they have been in good form this season, and they will be confident of causing another surprise in the final.
Ajax, on the other hand, are one of the most successful clubs in Dutch football. They have won the Eredivisie title a record 36 times, and they have also won the Dutch Cup 20 times.
The final between Go Ahead Eagles and Ajax is sure to be a close and exciting contest. Both teams will be looking to win the trophy, and it could go either way.
