Alex Bregman Ejected in Astros' Loss to Royals
Ejection Stems from Altercation with Umpire
In a game that saw the Houston Astros fall to the Kansas City Royals 6-3, Alex Bregman was ejected following an altercation with home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt.
Bregman Upset Over Called Strike Three
The incident occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning with Bregman at the plate. Wendelstedt called a 3-2 curveball a strike, ending Bregman's at-bat. Bregman immediately began arguing the call, prompting Wendelstedt to eject him from the game.
Astros Protesting Ejection
The Astros have announced that they will be protesting the ejection, claiming that Wendelstedt overreacted to the situation. "Alex was simply expressing his frustration with the call," said Astros manager Dusty Baker. "There was no need for him to be ejected."
MLB to Review Ejection
The MLB has confirmed that they will be reviewing the ejection. If the protest is upheld, Bregman will not serve a suspension for the incident.
