House of the Dragon Actor Ewan Mitchell Talks About Aemond's Rise to Power
Game of Thrones spin-off star reveals his character's plans and motivations
Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond Targaryen in House of the Dragon, has opened up about his character's rise to power and his relationship with his brother, Aegon.
"Aemond is a very ambitious and driven character," Mitchell said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "He's always been in the shadow of his older brother, Aegon, but he's determined to prove himself worthy of the Iron Throne."
In the first season of House of the Dragon, Aemond is shown to be a skilled warrior and a cunning strategist. He also has a strong sense of duty to his family, but he's not afraid to challenge Aegon's authority.
In the second season of House of the Dragon, Aemond is set to play a major role in the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war that will tear the Targaryen dynasty apart. Mitchell said that Aemond will be "at the forefront" of the fighting, and that he will "have a lot of blood on his hands."
"I think Aemond is a very complex character," Mitchell said. "He's capable of great cruelty, but he also has a lot of love in his heart. He's a very loyal person, but he's also very ambitious. I think he's going to be a great character to watch in the second season of House of the Dragon."
