Nerlens Noel Trade

Knicks Trade Noel and Burks to Pistons, Clearing Salary Cap Space

Mavericks Acquire Noel in Deal

Noel Traded Five Months After Expressing Discontent

The New York Knicks have traded center Nerlens Noel and guard Alec Burks to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick, according to league sources. The move clears approximately $19 million in salary cap space for the Knicks.

Noel, who started complaining about his role with the Knicks in November, had been the subject of trade rumors for months. The 28-year-old big man averaged 5.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in 49 games for New York this season.

The Pistons, who are rebuilding, will give Noel an opportunity to play more minutes and be a key contributor. The Mavericks, who are in contention for a playoff spot, will look to Noel to provide backup minutes at center behind Dwight Powell.

The trade marks Noel's second time being traded in the past year. He was sent to the Knicks from the Oklahoma City Thunder in February 2022.
